The
Leaning Pine Arboretum's mission is to promote
and assist in education, research, and public understanding
involving appropriate plants used in environmentally sound
landscapes.
In
pursuit of its mission, the Leaning Pine
Arboretum develops, manages and maintains living,
dynamic plant collections in a setting displaying
the highest standards of horticultural science and
art.
Education
The arboretum is an outdoor living laboratory for
students, staff, and faculty throughout the university.
Further, it serves as an educational vehicle for individuals
and groups outside the university, including other
students, professionals, and the general public.
Research
The arboretum provides a location for conducting a
broad base of research in many phases of the science
and art of Environmental Horticulture, including fields
such as landscape design and management, and the social
and aesthetic roles of urban horticulture.
Public
Understanding
The arboretum nurtures public understanding and appreciation
of Environmental Horticultural Science through its
displays and collections, educational programs, and
publications. The arboretum serves the general public
by providing a location and focal point for meetings,
